A popular Chinese legend gets a big-screen makeover in this animated feature film which turned out to be a massive box-office hit in its native China. A goddess falls in love with a mortal man and leaves for earth with her magical lotus lantern in tow. Several years later, her older brother Er Lang, still furious at his sister’s impropriety, captures her and imprisons her under Mt. Hua. But she now has a young son named Chen Xiang, and when he discovers what has happened to his mother, he manages to take back the magical lotus lantern. He is helped by gods and apprenticed by Monkey King. In Chen Xiang’s decisive battle against his evil uncle, the magical lotus lantern came to his aid. Mount Hua was cut into halves and mother and son were reunited.
