Marseilles' Trilogy, The
|In the thirties, César runs the bar ‘Bar de la Marine’, established in the Old Port of Marseilles. His son Marius dreams of sailing and refuses to acknowledge his love for Fanny. As for César, he dreams of a beautiful wedding but unfortunately, the old Panisse will be the one to propose. Fanny gives herself to Marius, hoping to keep him. But the ungrateful man embarks on a three year journey aboard the ‘Malaisie’. When she finds out she is pregnant, Fanny agrees to marry Panisse. Full of resentment, César directs his entire love towards Césariot, his grandson. Stopping-off in Marseilles, Marius is not welcome. César forces him to set sail for the South Seas. Panisse dies and Fanny reveals to her twenty year old son the truth about his birth. Shattered by the news, Césariot decides to look for his biological father. But a series of misunderstandings prompt him to reject that unworthy father. Feeling remorse, César brings back happiness to the ‘Bar de la Marine’.
